Throughout the years a number of funds have been established to support academic scholarships. The funds and their donors are described below:

All Scholarship funds have been designed for the principle to remain intact, but the interest to be used for educational purposes.

The Evelyn Simmons Scholarship Fund was established in 1985 with a gift of $10,000.00 by Dr. Richard Simmons in memory of his mother who was a long time member of the church and a teacher in the Akron School District.

The Michael Came Scholarship Fund was established after Michael’s death in 1995. Mike was a registered professional engineer with the State of Ohio and an active member of the church, which was a very important part of his life. Family and friends created the scholarship to assist students in any field of study.

The Dean Grinstead Scholarship Fund was established after Dean’s sudden death in 1996. Dean was a long time member of the church and volunteered his time to serve as business administrator and treasurer. Dean was a strong advocate of higher education and upon his retirement from Ameritech, he taught at the University of Akron’s School of Business Administration. In honor of Dean’s strong faith, this fund is designated to assist those whose major is in Religious Studies.

The Paul Baird Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 in honor and celebration of Paul’s 45 years service to the music ministry of the church. Paul came to the church in September 1958 as the choir’s tenor soloist and remained in faithful service to this ministry until September 2003. Family and friends created this fund in honor of Paul to be used in assisting those entering the fields of teaching and/or music. After completing his service as tenor soloist, Paul continued to faithfully sing in the choir until his death in 2015.
